Weddings at Delapré Abbey

The Library at Delapre Abbey

The opportunity to work on a styled shoot, in the beautiful Delapré Abbey, was something of a personal and business milestone.

I have many happy childhood memories of running around the grounds of the abbey. In more recent times, I have taken my son there, who enjoys it just the same.  There are many ancient trees, with lots of pathways and rockery areas to explore. Today, as an adult, the grounds are still an exciting place to visit.

Ancient Tree

The 900-year old Grade ll historic building has a fascinating history. It was originally built as a Nunnery in 1145. The Tate family bought the building in 1550 and re-moulded it into its appearance today.

It was only in 2018 that the glorious Abbey fully opened its doors to the public, becoming a community visitor attraction, wedding venue, place for business and events, and so much more.

I first stepped inside the Abbey whilst hosting a couple of workshops there, in the winter of 2018. I only saw a small part of the building, but as soon as you step inside, you can immediately sense the history around you, walking through the narrow corridors and up the quirky staircase, whilst going in and out of the many doorways.

Moving on to September 2019, when I was invited to exhibit at their wedding fair. Now although I have exhibited at a few wedding fairs in the past, this would be my first one at a stately home. It was a beautiful experience, leaving a lasting impression on me.

Keen to collaborate with Delapré Abbey further, I was delighted when their wedding team allowed myself and Sophie (forevermore events) to organise a styled shoot there.

We benefited from having had a brief tour of their many function rooms.  There are so many to choose from, there’s bound to be something to suit, whatever your style of wedding and number of guests.  The building is like a maze, you could easily and happily get lost in it!

Sophie and I joined up with Anna from Purple Cat Photography, a lady who is familiar with the Abbey, having shot there before.  She introduced us to Audre, our model for the day.

To complete the team, I invited Laura from the Greenhouse Cakerie.  We knew that she could create the perfect cake to show off Sophie’s new cake prop. The gold triangle frame.

I’ll show you what we all created in the next instalment.
